As Senior Utilities Engineer you will be responsible for managing the implementation of the new major wastewater pretreatment plant, and the ongoing performance of the wastewater system on site and the associated establishment and ongoing contractor/vendor management of the plant. This includes but is not limited to the following topics, design, safety reviews, scope definition, OPEX budget management, change and project management. The role will require driving safety and operational excellence and continuous improvement focus activities across the equipment/site within the Utilities Engineering team.

As a key member of the Utility team, this role will ensure that the pretreatment wastewater system and associated programs, conform to all relevant standards, legal and regulatory requirements as well as company specifications to always remain in compliance to the site’s environmental licenses and to support continuous GMP activities and manufacturing on site. 

Furthermore, the role will manage all large Utility contractor/vendor contracts on site and be responsible for their management, budgets, and delivery against established KPI’s and objectives.

The experienced individual will also act as role model for other members of the team and will advise and mentor junior roles to become more effective engineers.

Department Description

As Senior Utilities Engineer you’ll be joining an organization where people of all backgrounds and experiences are respected, and where we work together focused on changing lives.

In this role you’ll be reporting to the Utility AD.

Your Responsibilities

  • In this role, you will be key member of the Utility team for WuXi Biologics Ireland.
  • Work closely with all Utility members and contractors/vendors to ensure work practices and targets are achieved in line with the departmental targets and objectives.
  • The role will require extensive liaison with counterparts and business leaders in WuXi Biologics Ireland to include the highest level of professional representation of the site’s Engineering organisation.
  • Ensure that the all-new utilities are appropriately designed, maintained, commissioned, and approved for operational activities, including the on-going support and ownership for the execution of associated programmes. 
  • Ensure appropriate training of all WuXi Biologics and contractor/vendor personnel on Utility equipment, site safety and operational procedures is tracked, maintained and up to date.
  • Deputise for the Utility AD and plan/manage day-to-day utilities engineering support to site to meet manufacturing activities as well as plant shutdown schedules and ensuring adherence with all regulatory/safety/GMP compliance in a cost-effective manner.
  • Maintain a high, and continuously improving, level of GMP and environmental compliance to ensure patient safety and to minimise risk to the local environment and company business. 
  • Support Regulatory license activities, including vendor and agency preparations and inspections. 
  • Provide expertise and leadership in presenting SME input and formulating inspection responses. 
  • Maximize the success rate for operational availability by instituting programs to eliminate utility failures.  Support the site’s strategic plans for plant improvements to increase efficiency, improve uptime and drive down costs.
  • Communicate operational status of Utility equipment regularly to Engineering management at the appropriate level of detail. 
  • Identify and drive implementation of Engineering capital projects within budgets and timelines that increase the performance and reliability of Utility plant equipment.
  • Ensure data build – of spares, calibrations programme and maintenance strategies – are fully documented on the site Maintenance system.
  • Function as SME from design through to system handover for Utilities water pretreatment system and equipment.
  • Develops mechanisms for monitoring, trending, and reporting all Utilities Service Level agreement KPI’s and vendor performance.
  • Supports the site’s sustainability programme to achieve the companies’ global commitments to Carbon emission and water reduction.
  • Supports the sites adherence to ISO50001 and maintains its accreditation. This includes but not limited to the following, Energy management, energy audits and energy reduction on site.
  • Drives performance against objectives set as part of a collaborative and dynamic Engineering Team
  • Perform all duties in accordance with relevant legal, statutory, industry and regulatory requirements, SOPs and approved controlled documents.
  • Flexibility to take on additional tasks and responsibilities at the discretion of the Utilities AD.
  • Will act as a role model for the Engineering function and the wider organisation in adherence to the WuXi corporate core values and PROUD culture.

 

The ideal candidate for this position, will have the following:

 

Education

  • Technical qualifications at third level or equivalent in an Engineering related discipline. Master’s level qualification advantageous.

 

Knowledge/Experience

 

  • Established experience in Engineering and contract management, with particular emphasis on experience of wastewater and EPA licence within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Leadership team experience in driving cross function team excellence/business performance. 
  • Must have a proven track record in a leadership capacity within a fast paced commercially focused manufacturing facility within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience of working within a highly regulated multinational contract manufacturing environment advantageous.
  • Excellent strategic/business planning, budgeting, and reporting experience.
  • Experience in a multi-site, multi-cultural, international environment is ideal.
  • Fully conversant with relevant global/European/Ireland regulatory requirements for cGMP manufacturing facilities and environmental license.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding and experience in the application of Engineering principles, concepts, practice, and standards in the EU and internationally.
  • Significant expertise in relevant Utilities Engineering systems and processes.
  • Significant expertise in contractor/vendor control and management, including but not limited to set up and management of contracts (MSA/SLA).
  • Knowledge of safety, GMP, sustainability and environmental regulatory requirements.
