Our CSR task force is joined by many to kick off a charity challenge
to benefit Breast Cancer Ireland
It’s time for us all to get out and start walking. June 1, 2021 marks the start of the 100K in 30 Days charity walk in support of Breast Cancer Ireland. The aim of the fundraiser is to walk 100 km during the 30 days of June. The month-long walk-a-thon first took place approximately seven years ago as a modest charity drive within Blackrock Village in Co. Louth, which is located in general proximity to our site. However, in 2020 the founder of the event, Niall McArdle, wanted to expand the fundraising campaign even further following his wife Cara’s diagnosis of breast cancer in late 2019.
Both Niall and Cara wanted to give back to the community and so set about taking the event nationwide. The Pink Army grew to nearly 15,000 participants across all 32 counties in Ireland as well as reaching 34 countries around the world and raising over €1.2 million for Breast Cancer Ireland in 2020.
In 2021, WuXi Biologics stepped up to sponsor this charity challenge as part of the joint CSR program of activities with WuXi Vaccines. Over 150 staff and contractors from WuXi Biologics and WuXi Vaccines and their family members, including the employees who were recently relocated from China to Ireland, registered to participate in the widely supported athletic fundraiser.
Lunch Walk Together
Each site has their own unique dashboard to log their activity and to track the progress of each registered participant throughout the month of June. Every day members log their kilometers walked on the charity’s website. We have already racked up 5,000 km for WuXi Biologics and WuXi Vaccines. Everywhere you looked you could see the striking pink T-shirts sporting our logos! In total there are over 22,500 people registered to take part in the walk. WuXi Biologics and WuXi Vaccines are delighted to be sponsoring such a worthwhile and fun activity.

To kick off the event, the WuXi Dundalk site held a lunchtime walk on site with 17 participants in attendance on the first day of the event. Colleagues working remotely are also actively participating in this charity challenge by getting out and about within their local community. Throughout the month of June, it is hoped that further lunchtime walks will continue on-site to encourage employees and contractors to get moving and to achieve their 100 km.
