• Volunteers from WuXi Biologics and WuXi Vaccines join Irish charity’s efforts for community support.

Dundalk, Ireland, May 26, 2022—Recently, over 200 volunteers from WuXi Biologics and its subsidiary WuXi Vaccines participated in a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative “Darkness into Light” organized by Pieta House, an Irish charity organization, joining hands with them to raise awareness regarding issues of suicide and self-harm, as well as related preventive measures. This is the second consecutive year that the WuXi Biologics Ireland site has held this event.

“Darkness Into Light” first began in 2009 as an iconic fundraising event for Pieta House, which provides free, accessible, one-to-one counselling for people suffering from suicidal ideations or engaging in self-harm, or for those bereaved by suicide. Today the event draws about 200,000 participants each year at over 200 locations in ten countries.

At the Dundalk site, the WuXi Biologics and WuXi Vaccines joint Ireland CSR committee marked the event with an organized “HOPE” light-up and morning walk that signified the dispelling of emotional darkness experienced by victims.

At the event, participants – including Paul O’Brien, Manufacturing Head of WuXi Vaccines, and James Hayde, VP of Jacobs Engineering Ireland and Executive Project Director of WuXi Vaccines Project – spoke about the importance of raising awareness of suicidal or self-harm behaviors, and calling for societal support for related preventive measures. The volunteers who joined this initiative demonstrated with their actions how even the smallest kindness can bring light to peoples’ lives.

Empowering employee volunteerism and social responsibility has always been a part of WuXi Biologics’ CSR strategy. The company has established volunteering communities across their global sites to best enhance employees’ engagement and support local communities, including at Dundalk, Ireland.

A wide range of CSR initiatives – including gender equity and youth education – have been launched at the WuXi Biologics Ireland site as part of the company’s commitment to giving back to the local community. WuXi Biologics and WuXi Vaccines Ireland site also established a WiSTEM Committee to inspire women to realize their potential in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), provide career development opportunities, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
